Jan Deyl Conservatory of music
Studies at the secondary school takes place in the form of full-time study for 4 years. Studies are accomplished with a a high school diploma.
It offers one study course:
Tuning pianos and related instruments (course code 82-44-M/02)
In addition to general education subjects, specialized theoretical and practical workshop skills are also taught in secondary school. A number of these skills are taught in small groups according to the nature of the training lesson.
Students focusing on tuning learn the practical side of tuning, matching multiple instruments, adjusting and basic repairs of mechanisms of musical instruments (both contemporary and historical - pianos and upright pianos, spinets, harpsichords and dulcimers). Piano playing is compulsory part of the course; students should reach the level of playing necessary to present the results of the tuner's work.
In addition, in the tuner specialization we especially focus on students with visual impairments, for whom special training sessions are included - e.g. dot notation reading, working with assistive technology and instruments, spatial orientation, etc.
In the Piano Repairman (Technician) specialization, the student is trained in the repairs and restoration of keyboard instruments, including the basics of piano tuning. The Piano Repairman training course incorporates a variety of professions - woodworking, metals, lacquer, small mechanics, restoration, art carpentry. The course uncovers the secrets of musical instrument making.
A student of this specialization must not be visually impaired.
