Jan Deyl Conservatory of music
The Jan Deyl Conservatory and High School is located in a Baroque palace in the picturesque part of Prague in the Lesser Town, near the Charles Bridge and the park Kampa. The enclosed grounds with a courtyard consist of two school buildings, a youth hostel wing, a canteen building which provides all-day boarding and a smaller training workshop building. The historic environment of this part of the city fuses perfectly with the artistic nature of the school and creates a unique creative atmosphere.
The school tends to be a smaller school in the terms of pupil numbers and this ensures a friendly community feel. A closer personal relationship based on mutual respect, tolerance and trust is established between teachers, staff and students. Students are naturally led to a sense of belonging to the community and pride in their school. Our "Deylak" is characterised by family atmosphere and by tolerance and respect for diversity.
The current focus and operation of The Jan Deyl Conservatory and High School continues the work of the former Deyl Institute, founded in 1910 by the eminent ophthalmologist and scientist Jan Deyl, M.D., and continues its specialization in education of the visually impaired.
As the teaching of music to the visually impaired has its own specifics and loads considerable demands on teachers, the school offers consultancy support to all teachers who teach visually impaired pupils in primary art schools or elsewhere.
