Jan Deyl Conservatory of music
The Jan Deyl Conservatory and High School, a contributory organization, is located in the ancient building of the former early Baroque Palace of the Straka family from Nedabylice in Prague's Lesser Town. It is a school with a national scope and offers accommodation in the youth homes to non-Prague students - one of which is part of the historic palace. A school canteen is available to students and staff on the school premises, providing all-day meals. The school also has training workshops and a recording studio.
The history of the school has been associated with visually impaired youth since its inception. The goal of the Jan Deyl Conservatory and High School is to follow the activities of the former Deyl's Institute, founded in 1910 by the eminent ophthalmologist and scientist MUDr. Jan Deyl. Today, the implementation of inclusive education is the most natural way for students to learn mutual respect and acceptance of differences.
The education focus on various specializations. The Conservatory offers a six-year studies in singing, instrumental music or music theory, while the High school offers a four-year diploma course in tuning pianos and related instruments, with a dual focus on tuning or piano-making and repairs. The school aims to provide an education in such content as to prepare graduates not only for further artistic study, but also to enable musicians to compete in a highly competitive environment and tuners or pianists to find a career in their specialization.
