Music Theory and Composition

Our school has a good tradition of teaching keyboard instruments and our teachers are highly experienced in educating students, including those with individual needs. Our students can play Steinway and Fazioli pianos. Organ lessons take place in St. Mary's Church under the chain, and digital instruments are used to help students practice. The accordion lessons has been taught since the school was founded, and students can borrow a Delicia Dineta accordion during their studies.

The goal of teaching string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments is to prepare our students for future careers, whether as a performer or music teacher. Our staff of teachers in these areas of study consists of experienced solo or orchestral players, all of whom are teachers with many years of experience. The study also includes chamber playing and practice in the school chamber orchestra. Study projects involve collaboration with other specializations and departments, mostly with the classical voice department.

In the area of music theory and composition, our priority is the deepest possible connection between theoretical knowledge and performance or musical creation itself. As we know part of our graduates finds a job as the teachers at music schools or conservatories, so they will use their knowledge of music history, music theory, intonation, harmony, counterpoint and other subjects of professional training in this profession. Moreover, this knowledge is a prerequisite for subsequent studies at music universities.

Classical singing

Popular singing

Classical singing

This programme includes the study of classical solo and chamber singing, where students first master the basics of breathing and vocal technique, correct articulation, vocal culture and observance of the principles of vocal hygiene, then they are guided to a stylish, sophisticated and genre interpretation of vocal compositions of different styles.

The human voice is an expression of our soul, a mature vocal performance is the result of years of rigorous study. The study of classical singing focuses on the education of prospective opera and concert singers and vocal artists. Experienced teachers with an experience of years of performance and teaching help them to achieve this goal. The study also includes education and training in acting, stage movement and other stage skills. Students also get a practice in the school choir. Young singer adepts perform at numerous concerts, in opera projects and participate (often with considerable success) in national and international singing competitions. During their studies, master classes with top Czech or international opera singers are held. Graduates continue their studies at Czech or foreign music universities, work as soloists or choristers on Czech opera or concert stages.

Popular singing

The study programme in popular singing develops the vocal performance skills necessary for the profession of a popular music singer.

The purpose of studying popular singing, in addition to vocal technique, is to cultivate the student's interpretive individuality needed for a career in popular music. Students are educated for future solo or choral careers in the theatre or concert projects of the popular music scene. In the course of their studies, they will learn about different styles of music, which will determine the appropriate future specialization of the performer. Ensemble singing and singing from the page are also part of the study, as not all students will find employment as soloists. There is a growing demand in Czech primary art schools to teach children in popular singing. Our graduates are thus finding a job as teachers and are well equipped with knowledge of special vocal techniques and the interpretation of modern songs in order to pass on these skills on their future students.
