announces:

The International Competition

for Blind Composers 2023

Regulations:

  • The competition is open to solo or chamber music. The composition can also be vocal - instrumental (maximum two human voices). The possible number of players is up to 10 performers at maximum.
  • The pieces may already be published or performed at the time of entry. Each participant can submit two compositions. Duration is not limited.
  • Only people who are totally or legally blind, as defined on the World Health Organization (WHO) website, may participate in the competition.
  • Applicants must prove their visual impairment by affidavit; in case of doubt, the organiser has the right to request proof of visual impairment by means of an officially issued card or medical certificate.
  • The method of notation: the jury will accept for judging the works entered
    • in any notation program in printed or electronic form
    • in brail script notation (which will be converted into black-print version for the judging members by the jury assistant of the competition)
    • a recording of the composition (a performance recording or a quality DEMO image) is welcome, but it is not a requirement for participation in the competition
  • Application deadline: 30 June 2023
  • Applications should be sent:
    • Electronically to competition@kjd.cz including attachments of score files, sound recordings or links to them. For larger data files, data delivery services may be used. For example, WeTransfer.
    • By post to the Jan Deyl Conservatory of Music, Maltézské náměstí 14, Praha 1, 118 00, Czech Republic.
  • The jury will publish the results by 30 September 2023.
  • Prizes for the winners:
    • 1st prize – 800 Euro
    • 2nd prize – 600 Euro
    • 3rd prize – 400 Euro
  • The prizes will be paid by cashless transfer in Euros to the account specified by the contestant and are subject to taxation according to the legal regulations of the Czech Republic.
  • The winning compositions will be performed and recorded in cooperation with the competition organizer. The jury has the right not to award the prize or to divide it among several participants.
